Though India is blessed with expert heart transplant surgeonsand medical facilities we always face logistic issues. It is very difficult to transport a heart for transplantation in India. For example, in an event of transplantation, foreign countries use helicopters to airlift the live organs which is not practical in India. Amidst these apprehensions transporting a live heart through a metro train and successfulheart transplantation in Hyderabadhas attracted the attention of both the general public and also the medical community.
“It took around 50 minutes in low-traffic conditions for our team of doctors to reach the hospital with donor’s heart for primary examination. But it was extremely important to transport the live heart as soon as possible to the patient, to increase the chances of successful transplantation. Airlifting at such short notice may not be practical and can cause delays due to logistic issues. And that is when we got the idea to utilize Metro”, said Dr Alla Gopala Krishna Gokhalewidely regarded as the best heart transplant surgeon in Telangana.
“Fortunately, the Metro authorities promptly responded and have arranged a green corridor for us and thanks to them, we were able to transport live heart on metro rail and perform successful heart transplantation in Hyderabad. On this occasion, we would like to convey our gratitude to the Metro authorities who played a decisive role in this successful heart transplantation” concluded Dr Alla Gopala Krishna Gokhale.
